From Rottweiler: In plain English, if you have a late model motorcycle that has an O2 sensor behind the catalytic converter, is on the list below, and you want to run an aftermarket exhaust system that deletes the catalytic converter, you'll need this device.
More and more bikes are coming with 'post cat O2 sensors' that can tell if a catalytic converter has been removed. The penalty is typically an engine light and the loss of cruise control as a result of it.
If you want to run an aftermarket exhaust that does not have a catalytic converter, you will need to confirm three things:
- The aftermarket exhaust needs to have a provision for the post cat O2 which is either an 18mm or a 12mm threaded bung (depending on your model) that will allow it to be screwed back into the aftermarket exhaust. If it doesn't have that, or is an older model exhaust that happens to still fit the new model with the post cat O2, you can weld in your own O2 bung choosing from this group here. If you have a 12mm O2 thread size you'll also need a reducer if using an 18mm bung.
- You will need a device that stops the engine light from coming on because the cat has been removed. (This is one of those devices)
- For this particular device you will need to confirm that it works with your model by referencing the list below.
Once you have confirmed these three things, you are on your way to the sound and lightweight you were after.
NOTE: This does not delete the post cat O2 and relies on it to still be in the exhaust to work properly. This device modifies the signals into looking normal, which requires the post cat O2 to remain on the bike. There are currently no plug in solutions that delete the post cat O2 so this is as close as you are going to get to be able to run an aftermarket exhaust.
From Arrow Exhaust: The Arrow A.R.D. is an electronic bypass unit designed to eliminate error signals from the downstream (post-catalytic) oxygen sensor when the original catalytic converter has been removed or is not operating correctly. It connects directly to the motorcycle’s OBD (On-Board Diagnostics) port and prevents the MIL (Check Engine) light from illuminating due to catalyst efficiency faults or irregular sensor data.
Built for permanent installation, the A.R.D. remains connected to the OBD port without drawing battery power when the ignition is off. It includes an integrated status LED for operational feedback and automatically powers down shortly after the ignition is switched off, reactivating immediately when the motorcycle is started.
The kit comes with a Y-splitter cable for flexible installation, allowing the OBD port to remain available for additional accessories. On select models, the unit can be connected directly to the ECU’s OBD port without using the included splitter.
Racing use only. Not approved for road use.
FITMENT:
If you do not see your model listed in the fitment finder on this page, the list below are the models Arrow Exhaust has confirmed for this part. You must confirm that any of the models you see below possess a post cat O2 which will require this part if an aftermarket exhaust is used that also has a bung present for the O2.
