Out of the necessity to be able to quickly service the air filter on the 990 Baja, Rottwieler's foam air filter was installed. The SAS and evaporative canister assemblies were left installed.
The now noticeable air intake noise on acceleration was expected and resulted in mixed feelings. On one hand, twisting the throttle was never more thrilling, on the other hand, the "popping" sound emitted sounds at times like a backfire. No worries though. The mind boggling performance did not fade and fuel mileage remained near the 40 mpg mark.
After due course, there will not be a need to remove the pollution reduction hardware for the bike's intended use. I see merits in removing the SAS and canister for storage reasons, but not performance reasons. All is well with that.
The Snap Out System is next up for installation.
The 990 Baja that benefitted from the air filter, runs 100% of its time on the endless miles of gravel roads, two track and abandoned stretches of pavement around Pahrump, Nevada. The bike has only seen four signalized intersections. It is thought of as a EXC 990.
Note from Rottweiler Performance: The popping is from keeping the emissions intact as the SAS system injects air into the exhaust causing a lean condition in the header which causes popping. Removal of this system will eliminate that completely.
